Lead together with gold, silver, copper, iron, tin & mercury was used technically before the birth of Christ. Lead is a metal, bluish gray in color, with a metallic luster. Lead is in the 4th group of Periodic Table with Atomic Number 82 and Atomic Weight 207.21.
The source of lead is mainly from Galena Ore (around 1.5-2.0% Lead). This ore through beneficiation process is enriched in Lead Concentrate to around 60%. This concentrate is usually treated in Rotary Furnace with reducing flux followed by Refining to produce 99.97 or 99.98% Primary Pure Lead as per required Specification.
Lead is virtually indestructible, non- biodegradable and adaptability in making various items.
85% of the Global Lead produced today is used in Lead Storage Acid Battery. Besides lead is used in building constructions, in radiation shield, Lead Sheets, Cable Sheething and Ammunation etc.
Recycled Refined Lead 99.98%
This variety of Secondary Lead is becoming popular with the advent of Maintenance Free Flooded and VRLA Lead Acid Battery. The basic differentiation of it from 99.97% purity lead is in terms of Bismuth and Silver. There are very many manufacturers who very strongly opine for less Bismuth in Pure Lead.
